- Often ignores details; makes careless errors
- Marked impairment of nonverbal behaviors (eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression)
- Failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level

- Lack of social or emotional relationship
- Preoccupation with one or more stereotyped, restricted patterns of interest
- Patterns of interest that are abnormal in intensity or focus

- Persistent preoccupation with parts of objects
- Significant impairment in social, occupational, or other areas of functioning
- No significant delay in language (single words by 2 yrs, phrases by 3 yrs)
- No significant delay in cognitive development
- No significant delay in development of age-appropriate self-help skills
- No significant delay in development of curiosity about the environment

PLEASE NOTE: Many children may at times display some of the behaviors listed above, only a professional can diagnose a child with Asperger's Syndrome or an Autism Spectrum disorder.
